Faxing To Hong Kong Without Long-Distance Costs Now Possible

Many people have friends and family members in Hong Kong. Keeping in touch with these friends and family members has - until now - been costly. Even with long-distance telephone discount plans, faxing has been expensive. Now, however, these people can fax friends and family members in Hong Kong. And they don't have to worry about expensive long-distance bills for any of these faxes.

Barry G. Wong at the Equinet Broadcasting Network says the implications are enormous.

"For many people from Hong Kong, leaving friends and family behind is difficult," says Wong. "Being able to fax friends with no worries about long-distance charges can help - especially women."

The person sending the fax does not even need a fax machine at home.

Suppose a person decides to fax to some friends and relatives in Hong Kong. What would the person do?

In the past, the person might make a note of what to fax. Suppose the person had a fax machine at home. At home, the person might wait to use the phone line. The person would try to use the fax machine. The long-distance fax to the first friend might encounter a line-busy signal. The long-distance fax to the second friend might run slowly and stop midway. The person might phone the second friend - long-distance - to ask what happened. The person would wait for the second friend to add more fax paper. The person would try to fax long-distance to the second friend again. During the long-distance faxing to the third friend, the original might jam and crumple - twice. The person would re-write the original. Later, someone in another room might pick up the phone, and interrupt a long-distance fax. The person would fax long-distance again. In this way, the person would try to send each long-distance fax - one after another. Afterwards, the person might remember that - on this fax machine - the original must face down. The original was facing up. So the person would try faxing long-distance again. Later, the large long-distance charges would appear on the telephone bill. Others might see the bill and ask about the many expensive calls.

Suppose, instead, that the person used the new way to fax to Hong Kong. The person would not even need a fax machine at home. The person might quickly get a fax on its way to several friends and relatives. The person who sent the faxes would pay no long-distance charges for these faxes. And the faxes would not appear on the person's telephone bill.

Wong is interested in showing people how to do the faxing without long-distance charges. Wong, an enabling consultant and product developer, says the process is simple.

The sender types a message. Then the sender sends the message by a special method. And the fax arrives at the Hong Kong fax number that the sender typed.

The sender does not pay any long-distance telephone charges for the fax. The recipient does not pay any long-distance telephone charges for the fax.
