  These resources might help you improve your learning and studying.

  • Use your learning styles to help you

    Do you know how you learn most easily? Some people might learn most easily by listening. Some might learn by seeing. Some people might learn by hands-on experience and movement or by touching. You might learn by one of these learning styles. You might learn by a combination of these learning styles. You might want to use these resources to find out your learning styles. Then, you might use study techniques that work well with your learning styles.

      After you answer, the computer system might tell you your learning styles. The computer system might also give you studying suggestions that match your learning styles.

  • Find out about Study Guides for testing, reading, writing, and classroom participation
  • Use Public libraries effectively
    • Ask librarians for information and materials showing you how to study effectively.
    • Ask librarians for information about how to use the library effectively.
    • If English is not your first language, you might ask about "EAL materials" or "ESL materials". ("EAL" means "English as an Additional Language"; "ESL" means "English as a Second Language").
    • Try to attend orientations or tours that show you how to use the library effectively.
    • If appropriate, apply for your own library card soon.
    • Find out about and look for appropriate places where you can study effectively. Especially if you are an EAL/ESL woman, studying at a library may help you.
    • Your library may offer many different services. Find out about these library services. Find out which of these library services might help you.
  • Find out about resources at Schools, Colleges, and other Educational Institutions
    • Contact the Library, the Learning Centre, or the Student Services Centre. Ask about information and workshops showing you how to study effectively. Find out about the help that you can access. If appropriate, find out about financial aid, child care, and protection against harassment.
    • If you are a woman, also contact the Women's Centre. Find out what information, support, study-partner networks, and other resources might help you. You might find information dealing with child care and other important information.
    • Try to attend orientations or tours that show you how to use these resource centres effectively.
  • Be aware of your own studying and learning approaches. Be aware of what helps you and what hinders you - currently. Make appropriate changes, where appropriate.
