Welcome to the Chinese-Canadian Women's Network On The Web (CCWNOW)!

Welcome to the Chinese-Canadian Women's Network On The Web! Thank you for coming here!

"I am a woman of Chinese origin, and I am in Canada." If that sentence is true for you, please read - and expect to benefit from this Network!

You might have been born in Canada. Or you might have come to Canada. You might be an immigrant. Or you might be a refugee - or a refugee claimant. Or you might be a visa student. You might have Canadian citizenship - or you might not. You are a woman of Chinese origin and in Canada. Being in Canada affects you. So you are a Chinese-Canadian woman.

The Chinese-Canadian Women's Network On The Web might then help you. And you might help other Chinese-Canadian women in this Network. You might improve your personal situation. Other Chinese-Canadian women might improve their situations. And, together, all of you might improve the situation of the entire group.

You can improve your situation. Take a moment now. Imagine, for a moment, that you can do whatever you want to do. Imagine, for a moment, that all your obstacles vanish. What would you like to be doing? What situation would you like for yourself? Knowing your goal is important. Knowing clearly where you want to be may help you arrive there.

How? Every day, you may see many people and situations. Suppose you remember your goal clearly, when you see these people and situations. Then, when you see someone, you might ask yourself a question. You ask, "Might this person help me with my goal?" Suppose you feel that the answer seems to be "Yes". If appropriate, you might then ask the person for help with your goal. Even if that person cannot help you directly, the person may refer you to someone else. That "someone else" might be able to help you.

Make contact with people who are truly willing to help you. Suppose you know a friend. Suppose she wants to know where to get good training in a subject. Maybe you know the answer. You tell her where to get training in that subject. Suppose, tomorrow, you want to find a better job. Maybe your friend knows someone who can offer you that job. Your friend might help you. Suppose you know many of these friends. Then, together, all of you can share tips and information. Together, you can help each other. Some people might give a special name to this "sharing of help". They call it "networking".

Some of those friends might be members of the Chinese-Canadian Women's Network On The Web. You might ask questions or share ideas on many topics. What do you do if your partner abuses you physically or mentally? What do you do if the owner of your basement suite is sexually harassing you? What do you do if your boss pays you less, because you are a woman? How do you access the cross-training and mentoring that help you get better jobs? Who is willing to help you practise conversational English - or Chinese? Who might help you with questions relating to health, travel, relationships? You might have many more topics that relate specifically to you. You might even work with other members of the Network on some answers.

You can ask them questions. You can try to answer their questions.

You can exchange other information, too.

The name, "Chinese-Canadian Women's Network On The Web", is a long name! You can use the group's short name: CCWNOW.

If you are learning English, you might want to know how to make a short name. The long name is "Chinese-Canadian Women's Network On The Web". The letters, "CCWNOW", are the first letters of words in that long name. The first "C" in "CCWNOW" is from "Chinese-". The next "C" is from "Canadian". The first "W" is from "Women's". The "N" is from "Network". The "O" is from "On The". The last "W" is from "Web", referring to the "World Wide Web". Together, those letters make up the short name: CCWNOW.

Joining the Chinese-Canadian Women's Network On The Web, or CCWNOW, is free!
